Hi Linda!

For height and depth you can do as well by laying the shell on
(plasticated) graph-paper. I do this for (archaeological) oysters etc
(for some reason I never get many scallops!) and the measurements are
easily reliable at 1mm. This means you can concentrate on getting the
"best" calipers to do the "fatness" - which is by far the hardest
measurement to do accurately.
