About the "Florida" seashells exhibit with the South Pacific shells, it ain't
just shells. Flip through any travel magazine and you'll find ads for
Caribbean destinations decorated with pictures of Pacific fish.

Heck, most of the tropical fish printed on Florida souvenirs are Pacific
species. But the same could be said for Cape Cod souvenirs, that and the pink
conch motif. And at the gift shop at Bradley Airport in Hartford, the
Connecticut souvenirs are printed with a picture of a lighthouse, the Cape
Hatteras lighthouse!

Of course it's hard to come up with a good symbol for Connecticut. Martha
Stewart(shudder) in an SUV perhaps?

It reminds of Calvin Trillin's theory about why it is so hard to get fresh
fish in Florida or California. He figured that all the fish caught in Florida
was frozen and shipped to California and all the fish caught in California
was frozen and shipped to Florida.
