Mercenine is extracted from a marine venus clam, Mercenaria mercenaria (from
which it takes its name), not a fresh water mussel. It inhibits the growth
of certain cancer cell types in culture. I don't know if it has yet been
tried in living animals. And I don't know of anyone currently working with
it, but if I can find something, I will post it.
