The following interpretive programs are currently open for enrollment.
Itineraries incorporate experiential learning into an affordable ecotour
format for anyone interested in natural history, photography, or outdoor
recreation. Faculty are welcome to consider any of these itineraries as
field components for courses in the appropriate areas. More detailed
workshop/course syllabuses can be made available upon request. Please
forward, print and post to your colleagues, students, members, and visitors.
For further information, please visit http://www.GustavWVerderber.com or
proceed to the individual itinerary provided for each program abstract.

NOTE: I sincerely hope that you appreciate these program updates. However,
should you have any objections to similar announcements on this listserv
(which appear no more than once a month to announce new or updated
programs), please let me know and I will gladly refrain from posting here in
the future.

(Gustav W. Verderber is an award-winning nature photographer, writer, and

The Pigeon Key Subtropical Workshop
February 25 - March 2, 2001 (final notice)
Proceed to the itinerary: http://www.gustavwverderber.com/floridakey.html

Immerse yourself in the ecology of the Florida Keys. Snorkel the coral
reef, encounter Key Deer and alligators in the lush upland hammocks, go
birding in the mangrove forest, and observe the diversity of shallow water
marine organisms from the comfort of a kayak. Learn about tides, the marine
intertidal, coral ecology, human impact, and about the extensive
conservation efforts in place to protect this unique environment. Guest
speakers include representatives from The National Oceanographic &
Atmospheric Administration Marine Sanctuaries Program and Reef Relief.

Hosted by the Pigeon Key Foundation, a non-profit research and education
institution, our participants experience the Florida Keys in a way that only
a privileged few have ever known. This year’s itinerary also includes a
field trip to the Everglades and an optional snorkeling extension to the
fabulous reefs surrounding the Dry Tortugas. Please consider joining us in
what Rachel Carson regarded as one of the most unique coastal environments
on Earth with no counterpart anywhere in the U.S.

The South Africa Wildlife Safari
January 6 – 15, 2002
Proceed to the itinerary: http://www.gustavwverderber.com/africa.html

Thanks to Robb Edgecomb, director of Executive Breakaway Tours, I am very
pleased to offer an affordable, South African wildlife photo safari. This is
a customized safari, designed in collaboration with Robb for anyone who has
dreamed of going on an African safari, but was always intimidated by the
cost. You do not have to be a wildlife photographer to get the most out this
remarkable wildlife experience.

The Green Mountain Nature Photography Workshop
August 10 – 16, 2001
Proceed to the itinerary: http://www.gustavwverderber.com/greenmountain.html

This course provides a thorough overview of the use of 35mm equipment to
produce top quality natural history images for illustration, publication,
education, and
exhibition. Aspiring nature photographers, educators, interpretive
naturalists, and anyone
interested in learning photography will find this course invaluable. While
the course
employs natural history as its primary subject, the instruction is a basic
introduction to
the use of 35mm equipment for most any application.

The Boreal Coast Tour
Late June or early July (exact dates to be determined in January)
Proceed to the itinerary: http://www.gustavwverderber.com/borealcoast.html

We will take three days to explore and photograph the boreal coast around
Cutler, Maine. Cutler is the closest point of departure on the mainland for
Machias Seal Island, where we will be going on our first day. Machias Seal
Island is a summer nesting site for a large colony of seabirds including
Atlantic Puffins, Arctic Terns, and Razorbill Auks. Machias Seal Island is
the only bird sanctuary in the world where visitors can observe nesting
seabirds from within a few feet! On subsequent days we will visit the Cross
Island Wildlife Refuge, photograph seals, eagles, Eider Ducks, and Humpback
Whales.

The Lake Eden Photo Camp-In
June 1 – 3, 2001
Proceed to the itinerary: http://www.gustavwverderber.com/eden.html

This year's Spring workshop is another of the popular photo camp-ins at
picturesque
Lake Eden in the heart of Vermont's northern Green Mountains. Bring your
tent or RV
and spend a delightful weekend in the company of fellow nature photography
enthusiasts. Classroom sessions are combined with field excursions to
Belvidere
Pond, an undeveloped pond teeming with spring flora and wildlife, and the
Babcock
Nature Preserve during which I will share with you my professional field
techniques
of close-up nature photography. Of course, photographing the carnivorous
plants in a
glacial peat bog remains our most popular outing!

Falling Waters Workshop
June 1 – 2, 2001
Proceed to the itinerary: http://www.gustavwverderber.com/fallingwaters.html

There are over 100 waterfalls in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Many are
right off the road, others require a bit of a hike through lush forests,
along enchanting upland streams and rivers. Each one is unique with a
personality all its own and virtually all offer opportunities to make
stunning, gallery-quality images. Join me and I will help you capture the
essence of falling water on film. Take home a piece of the Northern Forest.
Enlarge your best effort and hang it on your wall. Then, sit back and
listen; in a moment, the roar of the cataract will take you back to the
forest.

Fall Foliage Magical Mystery Tour
September 28 – October 1, 2001
Proceed to the itinerary: http://www.gustavwverderber.com/fallfoliage.html

Join a congenial group of nature photography enthusiasts as we spend two
days in the heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest
photographing the colorful mountains, forests, rivers, waterfalls, and
reflections. We will visit the popular spots as well as my favorite, hidden
nooks and crannies. These include sites that rank among the most photogenic
locations in all of New England! I will share with you all the professional
techniques that have enabled me to produce my published, award-winning
gallery images of New England’s splendid autumns. This workshop is designed
for anyone interested in honing his or her general photography skills.
Emphasis will be on landscape photography with some close-up work included
as well.
