Dear Peter,
The American Museum of Natural History Guide to Shells Land, Freshwater, and
Marine from Nova Scotia to Florida by Emerson & Jacobson, l976; has some
useful descriptions and photos of eastern American Unionids.
2 are described from Canada
   Anodonta cataracta
            implicata
5 from the St Lawrence River Basin (?includes Newfoundland)
   Strophitus undulatus
   Lampsilis radiata
   Alasmidonta undulata
   Ligumia nasuta
   Elliptio complanata
Only 2 of these are mentioned to have bluish nacre
   A. cataracta ( rounded shape up to 6.5 in )
   L. nasuta 9 ( more elongate up to 4.5 in )
Regards
Geoff
