Harry, Linda,

I finally figured out the problem in OP 10: my plug-in scanner driver had to
be reset for line art --not gray scale or color-- for OCR. Scanned pages
then appeared without banding. I also notice that italics text, for example,
is scanned accurately, which seldom happened in OP 9.
