I give talks to school children about the fossils of the
Ordovician here in Wisconsin and encourage them to bring
fossils for identification. One brought a stumper a few
weeks ago.
A curator at the Milwaukee Public Museum sent a photo
of a similar specimen they'd identified as Gonioceras kayi.
Another cephalopod expert suggested it was a flat section
through the shell. I'm not convinced yet...
