How broad a category of victims are of interest? There are several vivid passages in malacological literature on non-malacologists, e.g.

"The Ohio River, 'La Belle Riviere' of the French explorers, has become a wide sewer, into which, under our benevolent, farseeing, and wise Governments, the filth and vilenes of hundreds of towns and cities, the contaminating water of thousands of mines, and the sewage of tens of thousands of cesspools and barn-yards is now being discharged in a nasty mass of corruption." W. J. Holland, prefatory note to the Memoirs of the Carnegie Museum, v. VIII, in reference to the fact that during the fifteen years from Ortmann's initial collecting to the publication of the note in 1921, many of the faunas described in his papers on Pennsylvania unionoids were destroyed.
