Thank you Dan and all those who responded to my query.
It seems that the data labels are not to be trusted.
This concerns samples of chitons from the Stenoplax limaciformis group.
Now according to Kaas & van Belle's monograph, vol.3 p.144, specimens from
the Pacific side should belong to S. limaciformis while specimens from the
Atlantic side belong to S, purpurascens. It seems that my samples have to be
carefully examined to determine the correct species. But I suppose the data
would still be useless.
