Olivier,
According to McLean in McLean and Grosliner, 1996 (The Gastropoda, in
Scott, P.H., Blake, J.A., and Lissner, A.L., Taxonomic Atlas of the benthic
fauna of the Santa Maria Basin and western Santa Barbara Channel, 9(2):
1-228) Antiplanes and Rectiplanes are considered the same: "Dextral and
sinistral species are known and subgenera have been based on this
distinction. However, Kantor and Sysoev did not consider the distinction
worthy of recognition. The significance of this differences is not
understood. Antiplanes has been used as a subgenus for the sinistral
species and Rectiplanes Bartsch, 1944, for the dextral species."

Rectiplanes santarosana (Dall, 1902) was the type of the genus Rectiplanes
Bartsch, 1944.
This shell is now in the genus Antiplanes Dall, 1902...
Then, I ask:
1- what are the differences between an Antiplanes and a Rectiplanes?
2- are there somewhere good & reliable informations regarding these two
gen. of turrids?
Thanks
Olivier Caro
