Ron,

Soak the specimens in mineral spirits or naptha. This will dissolve the
mineral oil. Leave in this mixture for a few hours. Rinse the shells off
and repeat. Gently brushing with a soft toothbrush may help. Do this until
the oily feel of the mineral oil is removed. Do this in a well ventilated
area and make sure there is nothing around that will generate a spark.
Naptha and mineral spirits are flammable.
