Jim et al,

loosely speaking.....I was told some time ago that granulation is caused by
the snail having a reaction to some foreign body, perhaps a grain of sand,
etc....and the result is seen in the shell. ( the granulation )

I dont know to what degree this holds true, but it makes sense to me.

PS....Would like to see a picture of the granulated Conus aurisiacus you
have if it's no trouble.
