Ingrid,
A great website for Man & Shells is Avril Bourquin's
"Manandmollusc.net/" which is a treasure trove on how man relates to his
"shelly friends". I've recommended this site for years and my teacher
friends find it most useful. Check it out. manandmollusc.net/

>Dear Conch-L
>
>I am up to my ears writing a book with the working title "The Story of
>Shells", to be published by Thames & Hudson in London next year. It will
>have up to 600 colour illustrations, and documents the influence of the
>shell on humankind in the arts, symbolism, religion, currency, etc. The
>publishers have asked me to include a reference section at the end of the
>book, with lists of (1) the most useful non-commercial websites for those
>with a general interest in shells, and newcomers to shell collecting, (2)
>the most important public collections of shells internationally, (3) the
>best shell grottoes/houses open to the public in Europe, and (4) a reading
>list for the newcomer to shell collecting.
>
>Most of you are learned on the subject of conchology, and therefore in a
>league beyond that of my likely readership. But if there is anybody with a
>little time to spare, and who may have ideas on the subject, I should be
>immensely grateful for advice on websites that should be included in this
>list, and of any books that I may have missed. It is hoped that the book
>will be published in USA and in foreign editions, so these lists should be
>as international as possible.
>
>I look forward to hearing from anybody with suggestions, and many thanks for
>all the interest Conch-L brings into my life.
>
>Sincerely
