//From Nancy Targett, Dean, College of Marine and Earth Studies,
University of Delaware://

Dr. Melbourne R. Carriker passed away on 25 Feb 2007, his 92nd
birthday! The College of Marine and Earth Studies, University of
Delaware, will host a ceremony of remembrance on Saturday 5 May 2007 at
4:00p at the Hugh R. Sharp campus in Lewes adjacent to the garden that
his students did in his honor in 2001. We are adding a Korean Bell to
the garden and at the ceremony we will ring the bell in memory of Mel.
After that, it will be rung following every successful graduate student
defense in Lewes. Following the ceremony there will be a reception at
the campus. Then, on Sunday, May 6th, the town of Lewes will place a
wreath in Mel's memory on the water at their annual Blessing of the
Fleet (2:00p at the town bridge).///

//Please let us know if you can attend the Saturday event! Mel asked
that any donations in his memory be given to the College for the benefit
of graduate students. To that end the Melbourne R. Carriker fellowship
endowment has been established. Our goal is to offer a graduate
fellowship in Mel's name every year!//
