The basic biological dissecting tools are available in most college
bookstores; in fact, they often sell inexpensive kits including a scalpel.
Medical schools generally have stores for their students that sell more
advanced equipment. Medical stores are also often located near major
hospitals; try the business listings in the phone book. These stores may be
expensive or inexpensive, and they may or may not be open to the public,
and they sometimes have restricted hours. It's best to call ahead.
University chemistry departments will generally NOT sell reagents or
equipment to anyone who is not connected to the University.
