I confirm this : N. mytilina of 2" certainly exist, they wash up on the
shore in Ushuaia.
Guido
(but they are not that easy when not diving: I found only a dozen in two
weeks time, guess one needs bad weather to get many in fresh algae)

>Paul and Emilio,

>The book "Moluscos de Chile" by Jaime Ramirez Bohme lists one specimen of
>Nacella
>mytilina (Helbling, 1779) with the following dimensions 42.2 x 28.1 x
>23.0mm.
>
>42.2mm is 1.7 inch, not too far from your 2 inch shell, Paul. As Emilio said
>Patella cymbularia Lamarck,1819 is a synonym. It is found, according with
>the book, in the Strait of Magellan and Tierra del Fuego.
>
>In the description says:
>"Concha delgada, oblonga, forma de lancha, conica, oblicua, medianamente
>alta, apice muy anterior, curvado hacia el borde. Delgada casi translucida.

>>Hi Folks,
>>I have an elongate, very lightweight limpet-type shell from an old
>>collection, about 2 inches in length. The cabinet label reads "Nacella

>>this. Has anyone ever heard of it?
