Thanks to all again for the very informative discussion on the types.

Another not so hypothetical situation. A worker gathers/collects a specimen lot

( lets say 25 specimens) from one locality. The lot or series is variable in
size,
markings and a few other physical measurements, some characters remaining
constant. The worker then selects three of  (in his thinking) the "prettiest"
and similarly  marked shells.
One the holotype and two the paratypes. At first glance (even a second or
third) the types
look nothing like the rest of the lot. The photo of the holotype and paratypes
are
published for the malacological community to reference.

Is this considered collection bias? Many collections would then only
contain specimens as close as possible to the types but not the majority
of the population.
