Despite the uneven outcome of my cute little "experimental" eBay auction (nobody bid on the
wonderful Pectens - not even the world records!!), i still think that this forum could become a
major and useful means of selling shells, for ordinary collectors as well as dealers: listing
something is very easy, there is a "gallery" for images, the charges are extremely reasonable, and
the "feedback" system ensures that con-artists will have a VERY difficult time of it - so **anyone**
with a shell (or even collection!!) to sell can simply sell it from their home in a few minutes.
While it is true that not too many folks "cruise the Bay" for "gems from the sea" (hope that phrase
isn't copyrighted!!) at the moment, if more people started to list things, it would not be long
before a certain "critical mass" was reached, and things would take off. A critical step will be
the establishment of a separate category called "seashells and landsnails", or "specimen shells".
My efforts to obtain a separation from the "rocks, minerals and fossils" category have not worked so
far, but if several of *YOU* were to also ask, surely they could not ignore Everybody?? The place
to put in your vote for our very own category is mailto:[log in to unmask]

P.S.: Tun shells must be imperial/avoirdupois: if they were metric, they would be Tunnes...
