On the topic of fading colors, i would like to ask if anyone has a guess
as to why the beautiful violet color present in some otherwise-albino
Neptunea (esp. lyrata decemcostata Say) fades so quickly after the
animal dies.  I have tried to preserve this shade by coatings of oil,
without success - it simply is not stable, even in the dark.  The same
goes for the blue color of some Tonicella, but this can be preserved
somewhat via freeze-drying.//  What i would like to know is if someone
has done any reasearch on these or other unstable molluscan pigments.
