Doris , maybe the storekeep was refering to the shells as "Local" in
relation to the universe, mark

A similar thing happened to me last May when I was in Spain.  At a
'souvenir' shop in a coastal village there were whole
tables of shells.  The shopkeeper assured me they were 'local'.  They were
all Philippine!
