With the Panama Canal, there are a series of locks and Gatun Lake which is
fed from freshwater rivers, and would seemingly create a barrier to
saltwater species migration, unlike the migration of Red Sea endemics (sea
level-no locks) which have been migrating through the Suez Canal to the
Mediterranean Sea since 1869.
