Some clarification here:
CITES species (App. I, II, or III) acquired before CITES provisions applied
to them (called Pre-convention specimens) fall under the exceptions article
(Art. IV).
Personal household effects (personally owned for non-commercial purposes,
legally acquired, worn/carried such as in personal luggage or part of a
household move such as on personal property) also fall under this CITES
exception for dead specimens only (incl. shells) HOWEVER exceptions exist
for queen conch Strombus gigas and giant clam Tridacnidae spp. (up to 3 per
person).
