Collection Manager, Mollusks - Job Announcement
The Delaware Museum of Natural History seeks a full time Collection
Manager for the Department of Mollusks to begin 2 January 1999. The
Collection Manager will oversee the care and day-to-day use of the
Department's collections. The 205,000 lots, 70% computerized, are
mostly dry with some alcohol-preserved specimens, of worldwide scope,
including marine and non-marine Gastropoda (75%), Bivalvia (20%), and
minor classes. Duties include coordinating and participating in ongoing
computerization of the collection, incorporating acquisitions into the
collection, helping to supervise volunteers, and assisting the curator
in responding to loan and data inquiries.
The successful applicant will have minimum B.Sc. in Biology or a related
field, familiarity with systematics, and ability to handle small and
fragile items. Experience working with natural history collections and
familiarity with computer databases is desirable. Knowledge of mollusks
is advantageous. Must be self-motivated and able to work as part of a
team.
