I continued my claim that ARC/INFO and other comparable GISes can
be used to make good maps by saying this could be limitted by bad
taste, etc. WordPerfect does not correct style, but it does help
with spelling checks and makes cut-and-paste reworking quite a
bit easier than any typewriter I've ever seen. All too often,
however, those who make maps with ARC/INFO don't know the range
of design options available and take the well-known route to a
map, rather than the shortest, or the best. This, as I have
pointed out is a shortcomming of both ARC/INFO--as hard to use--
and the training that goes into it's use--as GIS theory or use
without cartographic design, or cartographic design without any
training on the capabilities of the system.
