Dear fellow map nerds,
I visited a shoe warehouse over the weekend and discovered another
one those "must haves" for all of us that are map obsessed. I flipped
over a pair of shoes and found a map of the Northern Hemisphere carved
into the tread on the bottom of the left shoe and the Southern
Hemisphere on the bottom of the right shoe, when put together, making a
whole world map!
If you search for Merrell Shoes, I found a site that illustrated the
shoe and under the details, shows the underside. Try under dress shoes,
the "World Leader," for an example. I got two different pairs on
closeout and saw other styles with the same tread.

Now I am all set for those safaris during the IFLA meeting in 2
weeks! There is still time to sign up for the meetings in Durban, South
Africa, August 19 -23. Go to www.ifla.org and check under Activities
and Geography and Map Libraries, for the latest newsletter and schedule
for Durban. See you there!
