Please excuse the cross-posting:
Following the sentencing of Edward Forbes Smiley III, we again bring to
your attention the loss by the British Library of copies of the
following three maps:
1. The untitled world map known as the George Best world map of 1578
(Shirley, /Mapping of the World/, 138).
2. The untitled first issue of the so-called Alexander map of New
England and the Canadian Maritimes of 1624 (Burden, /Mapping of
North America,/ 208) - please contact Peter Barber directly at
[log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> to view a fan image
of this copy.
3. The untitled second issue (1625), from /Purchas His Pilgrimes, /of
the second state of the so-called Alexander Map.
If you have knowledge of the current whereabouts of the British
Library's copies of these maps, or any information that may lead to
their recovery, and/or knowledge of copies of these maps having been
traded or acquired by dealers, libraries or collectors since March 2004,
please contact [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> or
[log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>
The British Library thanks you in anticipation for your assistance in
this matter.
