Maps-L Colleagues,
The John R. Borchert Map Library is pleased to announce the release of
MHAPO - Minnesota Historical Aerial Photographs Online (see
http://map.lib.umn.edu/mhapo/index.html).
MHAPO provides access to over 7700 digitized copies of historic photos
covering the Twin Cities metro area. MHAPO uses a Google mashup
interface with push pins indicating the center point of each photo.
Clicking on a push pin provides additional information about the photo
including a link to view the photo.
Please check out our new tool and feel free to provide feedback. A
couple of notes....in case you don't read the instructions on the page:
first, you will need to zoom in to get push pins to appear on the map
and second, be patient...it may take a few seconds for the pins to appear.
Also in development is MapHappy (a project spearheaded by Lisa Johnston
- [log in to unmask] - in the Science and Engineering Library) which
provides users with a new way to search for maps at the University of
Minnesota Libraries.
MapHappy is another (more complex) Google mashup interface that utilizes
existing data from our OPAC to provide a geographic interface for
looking at search results. MapHappy hasn't been officially released
yet....but feel free to take a look and send us your feedback.
Best regards,
Kristi
