I suggest you look at the the Leemans and Cramer 30 year global temp
and precip data sets. They are not of high resolution (1/2 degree for
the world--720 columns by 360 rows), but they are in raster and easily
accessiible from National Geophysical Data Center. The source citation
briefly is, Leemas, R., and W.P. Cramer. 1991. The IIASA Database for
Mean Monthly Values of Temperature, Precipitation, and Cloudiness on a
Global Terrestrial Grid. Laxenburg, Austria: IIASA. My NGDC contact
number for this and other datasets is 303-497-6900.
