Yes, David, but nowhere does the author mention the possibly interesting (if
not contentious) map that names North America as 'Columbia' and South
America as 'America'! This world map (dated and printed 1802) will be
illustrated in my upcoming (nearly 'hot off the press' Goran?) contribution
to Prof. Ulla Ehrensvard's 75th birthday
'Festschrift'. Which contribution, in itself, treats of how some
15th-17th-century portolan charts from Siena ended up in the (present)
British Library ...

Colleagues -
There is a recent article in the September 2002 Proceedings of the American
Philosophical Society (Vol. 146:3, pp. 264-281) entitled "The Greatest
Misnomer on Planet Earth" by Seymour Schwartz. It is an interesting
discussion on the naming of America.
