Two messages concerning the question about detailed maps of the Dean River

Denise, there is coverage of the Dean River area by both the Federal Govt.
and the Province of British Columbia. The best federal scale is 1: 50,000.
The sheet no's. are as follows: 93 C/6, 93 C/11, 93 C/12, 93 C/13, 93 D/9,
93 D/10, 93 D/15 and 93 D/16. The maps are available from the Canada Map
Office at Cdn $8.20 ea., plus a handling charge of $3.50 for US orders.

The BC Govt. has a planimetric (no contours) series at 1: 20,000 which covers

sheets would be req'd.

I phoned MAPS-BC and confirmed that their 1:20,000 topographic series will not
cover the Dean River for another year or two. They felt that the 1:50,000
federal series, spanning 7-8 sheets, would be the most detailed topography
available, but they do have other thematic series (like land use and caribou
habitat) at various scales and dates.
 
I also checked the British Columbia canoe routes map, in case this is a
canoeist's question. The map, published in 1986, uses the International River
Classification system but did not code Dean River. I just answered a
canoeist's question about the Nahanni River with 1:50,000 maps, which were
very acceptable, since he wanted to know about the river and surrounding
terrain.
