I imagine there was a similar argument when papyrus scrolls were rapidly
being replaced by books. But I think when you spend $1.7 billion to
build a pair buildings to house great books, that it's worth asking how
much of that is really for a library and how much is for a museum.
At the rate that new information is arriving in the world, I think it
would be better to concentrate on the digital issues and problems of
organizing and distributing new knowledge and let curators manage the
old. Carpe diem, y'know!
