A UIC patron is searching for the location of a creek that was the site of
a battle in the War of 1812. He has the following three possible spellings
for this place:
Conjockta Creek
Conjocta Creek
Conjockety Creek
The creek is supposed to be near the town of Black Rock, a former village in
Erie Co., N.Y. on the Niagara River where it flows from Lake Erie. This is now
part of Buffalo, N.Y., although there is still a railroad station that bears
the name. (425556N,0785403W)
The patron and I have searched the GNIS CD-ROM and other gazetteers (OMNI,
Col.-Lip., Webster's) and did not find a creek by that name. Searching
the GNIS for a stream close to Black Rock yielded the following place
name: Scajaquada Creek (425545N,0785358W)
Can anyone verify that this is indeed the modern name of the creek? Or
provide the correct modern name?
Thank you for any assistance.
