Position: Coordinator: Microforms, Government Document CD-ROMs and Digital
Mapping, Media Services Department
Environment: The University of Delaware's attractive main campus is located
in a suburban community of 30,000 and is within easy reach of the cultural
resources of Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore and Washington. The University
of Delaware Library is comprised of the Morris Library and four branch
libraries. The collections include over 2.2 million volumes, and a strong
collection of electronic resources networked to the University. The University

Job Description: Reporting to the Head of the Media Services Department, a
department whose responsibilities include microforms, media, and a
microcomputing site. A position with diverse responsibilities and potential
to gain administrative experience. Supervision of two full-time support staff
and 10-12 students supporting microforms collections and electronic services.
Primary responsibility for an active, well-equipped microforms unit which
includes 11 microform reader/printers and 25 readers; collection management;
and user assistance and equipment support related to the library's collection
of 2.5 million microforms, responsibility for which comprises approximately
80% of the position's responsibilities. The position also includes
responsibility for service to four CD-ROM workstations, which provide access
to government documents products and connection to the library's network of
electronic resources. The Digital Mapping Station includes Geographic
Information System (GIS) software, an electronically sophisticated means of
linking data to geography for display in map form. Other responsibilities
include coordination of limited public service to the Library's Map Room.
Depending on the qualifications and interest, this position may also be
assigned responsibilities related to other areas of the Media Services
Department. May include selection responsibilities for microform materials
in cooperation with subject selectors and/or collection development
responsibilities with faculty liaison in a subject area.
Qualifications Required: ALA accredited masters degree. Minimum one year
experience successfully supervising staff in a busy customer service operation
or library. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse
individuals in a rapidly evolving electronic environment. Familiarity with
state-of-the-art library electronic technology. Preferred: Experience with
microforms and/or with government document CD-ROM products.
Salary: Rank and salary dependent upon experience and qualifications.
Assistant Librarian: Minimum $27,211. Senior Assistant Librarian: Minimum
$30,671. Benefits: Vacation of 22 working days. Liberal sick leave. Generous
flexible benefits program. TIAA-CREF or Fidelity retirement with 11% of
salary contributed by the University. Tuition remission for dependents and
course fee waiver for employee.
