------------------
I want to thank the respondents who replied to my query.

Bill Mooney of University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, provided a web
site transcribing parish histories of Cumberland which provided very
useful information.

Tinho da Cruz of University of Liverpool provided a tiff of a portion of a
map of The County of Cumberland, Hodskinson, 1774.

Laura Campbell of University of California, Santa Cruz, found another
useful website with information about the area for genealogists, which
includes map images of maps 1810 and 1870 by Ordnance Survey.

And finally, an anonymous posting from Dartmouth University provided
additional narrative description of the area with reference to the Tarn
given.

Many thanks to all of you.

Ken
