Alexandria Drafting Company is no longer the name of the company known as ADC. They are
known as ADC The Map People and are located at 6440 General Green Way, Alexandria, VA
22312-2447 (Phone: 703/750-0510; FAX 703/750-3092; 800/ADC-MAPS). They primarily
make very good street atlases and maps of Virginia, Maryland and DC, but have also made
maps of some areas in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Delaware and various state and regional
maps. This information was taken from the 1996 ADC "Metro Washington, DC" street atlas.

There are a wide variety of publishers of street directories; until
recently, these were mainly local publiactions. Major publishers that
come to mind:

Boston area: Arrow, Butterworth, Universal
NYC area: Hagstrom
Philadelphia area: Patton, Franklin
Albany area: Jimapco
Chicago: Rand, Creative Sales
Minneapolis: King/Universal, Hudson
Denver, Texas: Pearson/Mapsco
Washington: ADC
Various US (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana are older core areas): Universal Map
Canada: MapArt (Toronto)

A good general source is MapLink, who has a new catalog out. They can be
reached at

Map Link, Inc

Rand McNally publishes the largest national series of such guides in
their StreetFinder series; the accuracy is usually somewhat lower than
local products, but this varies from town to town.

Good luck!

Thomas Bros. is probably second only to Rand McNally for offering the most
markets. Most street directories are local products, although ownership of
the companies is starting to consolidate. For a comprehensive answer, you
would need to look through the MapLink catalog.

But here's a partial listing to give you the flavor:

Boston Arrow
New York Hagstrom
Washington ADC
Baltimore ADC
Atlanta ADC
Philadelphia Franklin
Miami Dolph's
Dallas Mapsco
Denver Pierson Graphics
Chicago Creative Sales Corp.

There are other locals (whose names escape me) in Cleveland, Houston,
Atlanta, and probably many other cities. And this is concentrating
primarily on bound atlases, as opposed to folded maps.

Rand McNally publishes StreetFinder guides for at least two dozen cities
around the country, though the cartography is usually the same as found on
their maps.
