----------------------------Original message----------------------------
Hi everyone,
In reply to my soapbox speech about USGS New Pubs only being available
on the Internet, John Shanton kindly sent this reply. With his
permission I am posting it to the list--he's had a bit of e-mail
trouble, so couldn't post it himself.
I hope you will all breathe a sigh of relief--I did. It's nice to hear
Uncle Sam responding to the public's needs, and I hope sales increase as
a result!

I spoke with the Chief of the office concerned with the publishing of the
USGS Monthly Pubs List. They have been swamped with requests about the
printed copy so they did a major review and have decided to print them but in
a different manner.
Hopefully by the end of Oct. there will be output. Heres a bit of a rundown
of whats planned for the future.
* Oct printing will be the last 5 months of '95
* Continue to do electronic publishing of the monthly lists
* 6 month listings of the '96 publications, Jan. thru June then
July thru Dec.
* Print only on a quarterly bases, starting in '97 with citations
only; subject and author indexes will no longer be included
* Annual Supplements, with indexes, may still be purchased form
the Denver distribution center
The printing this fall will have a Notice in it about updating your
subscription with mail back forms. As the last sentence on the notice states:
"Future mailings will be made only to those subscribers who return the
address verification form to the USGS."
Hopefully this has been something that will make your day.
