Responsibilities: The University of Ottawa Library Network seeks an
energetic and service-oriented Head, Geographic Information and Data
Centre with excellent communication skills for the Arts and Science
Library (Morisset Library). The successful candidate will be a creative

Description: Reporting to the Director of the Morisset Library, the
Head, Geographic Information and Data Centre plans, organizes, and
manages all activities related to the administration of the Geographic
Information and Data Centre; ensures the development, organization,
management and retrieval of a collection of spatial and statistical
information in paper and electronic formats to meet the teaching and
research needs of users; provides reference, instructional programs,
outreach and faculty liaison services for map, Geographic Information
Systems (GIS) and statistical information; promotes the use of the
collection and services. The Head of the Geographic Information and Data
Centre also acts as the subject specialist for Geography and
Environmental Studies. The main objective of this position is to
contribute to the optimal development, organization and use of library
information resources in support of the learning, teaching and research
mission of the University of Ottawa.




Essential Qualifications:




1. Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited
institution;

2. Eight (8) years of professional experience, less if experience is
particularly pertinent;

3. University degree in geography, geology or social sciences,
preferably at the graduate level;

4. Knowledge and experience with GIS and statistical data and knowledge
of spatial data structures and formats and metadata standards;

5. Experience in collection development and reference services related
to spatial and statistical information in both print and digital formats;

6. Knowledge of emerging technologies in libraries and in data
management and retrieval and a high degree of computer literacy;

7. Strong public service and team orientation;

8. Management, organizational and supervisory skills as well as
experience marketing services;

9. Good teaching and communication skills;

10. Bilingualism (English and French).


The rank and the salary will be commensurate with qualifications and
experience. If the candidate meets the qualifications the minimum salary
will be $55,133.

Note: This position is part of the Bargaining Unit.

Description : Se rapportant à la Directrice, Bibliothèque Morisset,
le/la Chef, Centre d’information géographique et de données planifie,
organise et gère toutes les activités du Centre; développe et organise
une collection d’information géographique et statistiques qui répond aux
besoins d’enseignement et de recherche des facultés; offre des services
de référence et des programmes de maîtrise de l’information, en
consultation avec les facultés; fait la promotion des collections et des
services du Centre. Le chef agit aussi en tant que bibliothécaire
spécialisé en géographie et en études environnementales. Les objectifs
premiers de ce poste consistent à contribuer au développement, à
l?organisation et à l?utilisation optimale des ressources documentaires
du Réseau de bibliothèques en appui à la mission d’enseignement et de
recherche de l’Université d’Ottawa.




Qualités essentielles :
1. Diplôme de maîtrise en bibliothéconomie (MLS) d’une institution ayant
obtenue une accréditation de la American Library Association;
2. Huit (8) années d?expérience professionnelle ou moins, dépendant du
dossier;
3. Grade universitaire en géographie, géologie ou en sciences sociales,
préférablement au niveau du 2e ycle;
4. Connaissance et expérience des systèmes d’information géographiques
et des statistiques et connaissance des structures des données spatiales
et des métadonnées;
5. Expérience dans le développement de collections et les services de
référence dans le domaine de l’information géographique et statistique
en format imprimé et électronique;
6. Connaissance des technologies d?information pertinentes aux
bibliothèques, de la gestion et de l’extraction de données et expertise
en informatique;
7. Compétence orientée vers les services publics et le travail d’équipe;
8. Compétences de gestion, d’organisation et de supervision et
expérience dans la promotion de services;
9. Compétences en enseignement et en communication
10. Bilinguisme (français et anglais).



Le rang et le salaire seront établis selon les qualifications et
’expérience. Si le candidat rencontre les qualifications du poste le
salaire minimum sera de 55 133$.
