SLYSHISH! SLYSHISH! (Or, Oyez! Oyez!)
Map of the
PEOPLES OF RUSSIA AND ADJACENT COUNTRIES
(Or,
NARODY ROSSII I SOPREDEL'NYKH STRAN)
194 peoples and 67 sub-ethnic groups are shown on this 4-sheet
multi-colored map of the peoples of Russia, the other Soviet successor
states, and of the contiguous states. For the first time (as they
were not included in the Soviet censuses of 1937, 1939, 1959, 1970,
1979, and 1989) over 40 peoples of Russia and other former Soviet
republics have been marked. Territories with an ethnically mixed
population, sparse population, and with peoples in a minority on their
own territory have all been depicted and differentiated by a variety
of cartographic techniques.
The map was compiled in 1995 by specialists, under the supervision of
Professor Pavel I. Puchkov, at the Miklukho-Maklay Institute of
Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in
Moscow. At a scale of 1:4 000 000 and on 4 sheets (total size 131x211
cm), the map was published early this year (1996). It is available in
either English or in Russian language versions at either $US70.00 or
?40.00 (package and mailing costs included) from:-
