In response to Sue Haffner's question about preservation of the USGS
Geologic Atlas Folios, I moved our set into archival boxes (18x24x3)
They fit about 10-15 per box and protect the edges.
Because they are in "special" boxes, I find that users are more careful
with their handling of them.

We've just recently done a project to "preserve" our PA-related Geologic
Atlases here at Penn State.  The folios were in such rotten shape and used
quite frequently. So, we had all the folios that covered PA de-acidified,
encapsulated and post-bound. The difference is AMAZING. Instead of flimsy,
cracking paper we have sturdy mylar sheets in a sturdy binding. I'm in the
process of "profiling" the project for the Geoscience Information Society
Preservation Committee web site. When the data is loaded on the server I'll
let folks know the URL so those with folios in similar condition can check
