Helen,
I have information for coding of Rand McNally road maps but the information
does not work for other maps of that company.
I do not have enough info on coding of Gousha maps.

Dear Laura
Gousha uses a 2-letter code for the date. In your case the date code is
YL which is for the year 1984.
Usefull information on date codes may be found in the WAML information
bulletin. Vol. 13, no. 3, June 1982, p. 340-341 and Vol. 6, no. 3, June
1975, p. 15. Also there is some information on the Road Map Collectors of
America Web Page, http://falcon.cc.ukans.edu/~dschul/rmca/rmca.html
Hope this helps

At the web site for the Road Map Collectors of America, they have a chart
showing the date codes for Rand-McNally (1919-1978) and Gousha
(1927-1978). This deciphers only the date part of the code, not the rest
of it.
see http://falcon.cc.ukans.edu/~dschul/rmca/codes.html
There's a link to a more detailed essay on the Rand-McNally codes.

Hello, all:
As people have asked, here is my list; I hope it agrees with yours,
Andrew! :-)
1977 YY 1987 QD
1978 ZZ 1988 WJ
1979 AB 1989 ER
1980 AC 1990 IV
1981 AN 1991 SF
1982 MZ 1992 UH
1983 OB 1993 GT
1984 YL 1994 NA
1985 CP 1995 ZM
1986 KX 1996 BO
I haven't seen one for 1997 yet. But I wonder, will it be LY,
following the pattern of 1994-96 being the reverse of 1981-83?
We'll see... -- Ken Rockwell
