Subject: Price Change for USGS Topographic Maps

Hello,

Please excuse the duplication. I thought that I would forward
this message in response to Chris Thiry's message to Maps-L this
morning. Linda Zellmer

ESIC Information Bulletin
Number 02-41
Date: 8/23/02
Subject: Price Change for Primary Series Topographic Maps

Effective September 1, 2002, the USGS will increase the price of its
1:24,000-scales, 1:25,000-scale, and 1:63,360-scale primary series
topographic quadrangle maps from $4 to $6. The $5 handling charge per
order will remain the same. The current discount percentages and
purchase quantity requirements for Business Partners, Federal and State
agencies, and non-profit organizations will be maintained.

Prices for the primary series maps were last revised almost 7 years ago.
This change is being made to comply with requirements from the Office of
Management and Budget and to accurately reflect and ensure recovery of
the costs associated with the reproduction and distribution of these
maps. Sales under the new price are expected to generate the revenues
necessary to sufficiently recover costs of reproduction and distribution
and to provide incentives to stimulate private sector involvement in the
dissemination of USGS products.

Business Partners and other external constituents are being notified in
advance of the effective date for the change.

Further information and frequently asked questions will be available on
the
web by September 1. http://mapping.usgs.gov/esic/newpricesfaqs.html
