DESCRIPTION:
One component of geospatial information that most libraries,
archives and societies have is maps and often, aerial
photography, views and other geographic materials.
Transforming these materials from paper/analog objects to
digital objects provides tremendous content to the scholarly
community. These images can be further transformed to be
raster objects can then be manipulated in a GIS environment.
Participants will learn about Images as Geospatial Data
Objects, Historical Aerial Photography as Geospatial Data
Objects, Capturing Map Images as Geospatial Data Objects and
Creating Metadata for Geospatial Data Imagery. Participants
should, at the end of the day, have a sense of how to
proceed with building a collection digital geo-spatial image
collection.
