----------------------------Original message----------------------------
there has been some discussion outside the list regarding
map sales. can we optomize use of the net to reward
enterprise and eliminate congestion? one approach might
enlist the International Map Dealers Assn. to sponsor a
dealer's listserver, with links to each participant. map
libraries could "point" to this homepage on their homepage,
greatly expanding each dealer's "reach". IMDA could insure
the integrety of their links, sell space, etc.
the other approach i'd like to experiment with is for
dealers to add us to their new titles lists ON REQUEST so
these lists would go only to interested parties. we could
reserve a thesarus descriptor for this service.
Then recipients could flag, relay, download, file, delete,
whatever, knowing the catagory of information.
as an adjunct, i'm trailing this message with "dealers
pt. 2" instructions on e-mailing to fax numbers, which might
interest dealers in a more general way.
