Subject: measuring the accuracy of early maps
Sender: nkandoian <[log in to unmask]>
Does anyone know offhand about recent published studies or the names
of contact people for information about measuring the accuracy of
early maps using computers? I am making this query for someone who
would like to capture an early map in vectors and "stretch" it to fit
known features on a modern topo map, and then make some analysis or
measurement of accuracy. He's interested in the experience of others
who have done this. I've found Ravenhill and Gilg's 1974 article in
Cartographic Journal, and thought of tracing later citations of their
work through Social Sciences Citation Index, but if anyone would like
to suggest something else, I'd appreciate it.
