Attention all mapsters in the northeast!
Frank Manasek will speak on the paper used in mapmaking in a talk to
the New York Map Society on this coming Saturday at 11 a.m. at the
American Museum of Natural History, Room 319. The museum is at 81st
and Central Park West.
He will focus on 500 years of paper making and show slides of the
microscopic structure of paper. Mr. Manasek is Managing Director of G.
G. Manasek, Inc., a firm dealing in rare books and maps. He is the
author of Uncommon Value: A rare book dealer's world; Under Cover:
Death stalks the Book Dealer and also Collecting Old Maps: the map
collector's vade-mecum.
The above notice appeared in Rhumblines, the newsletter of the New
York Map Society. For more information, call David Starr, President at
212-929-4861 or Cathe Giffuni at 212-779-9540.
Please join us! Folks in the northeast within commuting distance are
most welcome to join us at the museum. Go to the 77th or Central Park
West entrance, under the stairs, and ask for the NYMap Society
meeting, in Room 319. Avoid the crowded front door entrance and
stairs. Entrance fee should be waived, as we pay a fee to use the
meeting room.
