Subject: job opening at NYPL--extended search
Sender: [log in to unmask]
Dear Mapsters,
This position is still open, as we are waiting to fill it until after
taking it to the Library conferences this summer, ALA and SLA. While we
have candidates in the wings, we do not want to miss the opportunity to
meet also with beginning map librarians who may wish to consider working at
NYPL. The Map Division currently has a staff of 4 map librarians, with an
additional grant librarian, and technical and page staff. We are a
dedicated team of geographers, with a strong focus on maps as research
tools, in this research oriented collection. This is a wonderful
opportunity for growth and advancement. We encourage map librarians
relatively new to the field to consider this job if they envision
themselves in a longterm career path in map librarianship. Working at NYPL
allows the map librarian to work with the general public, with business
folk, travelers, scholars, writers, architects--and sometimes those are all
the same person! Just kidding. The map and atlas collections date from the
16th century to the present, from paper maps to digital, with this
particular job focusing on the digital. Email me if you have questions, or
HRD [see below] if you wish to apply. Email applications, including a
resume, are totally acceptable and welcome. Alice Hudson, Chief, Map
Division, The New York Public Library.
