I would suggest accessing G.A. Thompson's "The Geographical and
Historical Dictionary of America and the West Indies..." first
published in 1814. I have a reprint edition consisting of five
volumes and published by Burt Franklin, NY, NY in 1970.
Unfortunately, it is not available on the web AFAIK.
