Subject: Map collections in regional depositories

Greetings,
I am trying to contact regional depositories located in universities
that contain map collections. McKeldin Library, a University of Maryland
regional depository, houses its depository on two floors. The collection
will be consolidated to one floor within the next year. Our concern is
the map collection, which is now located in the basement in a secure
room with closed stacks. Upon consolidation, the map collection may be
located in an open area and not in a secure room.
I would like to know how other regional depositories located in
universities have designed their map area. Please describe your map
collection floor plan and policies regarding access to the maps and
their security. If your floor plan contains a secure map room, please
state the reasons for separating it from the rest of the government
documents collection.
I appreciate your assistance. Please contact me by email at
