Hello. Scott asked about ways to bring both a map and the book it
accompanies to the attention of the catalog user, when the map and the
book have separate bibliographic records.
We do this by putting a local note in each bib record telling the user about
the other item and where it is located.
Example: The book which accompanies this map is shelved separately:
F591.C2R43 McHenry Library,
or The map which accompanies this book is shelved separately: G4364.S155
1986 .G4 Maps.
When cataloging the book we create a printed note with the same message,
which we tip into the book.
If the titles are significantly different the other item's title can be
added to the bib record in a note.
