2. ar2u Webinar: Navigating Online Arts Instruction Part 1
Educating Through Visual Arts, Engaging Through Distance
Wednesday, July 22 from 2:30 - 3:30 PM
https://www.a2ru.org/webinars/

This past semester saw a swift transition to remote arts instruction for many teachers. Amidst feelings of isolation and anxiety about the future, teachers and students had to adjust to a new way of learning and teaching. As humans so often do in times of crisis, our communities rose to the challenge. Teachers and students worked together to learn new technology; resources for remote teaching were shared throughout the art community; and genuine efforts were made to maintain a sense of community despite the imposed social distance. As we look towards the fall, and continued remote instruction for many schools, arts instructors still need a space to hear others' experiences, share, and gather resources on navigating online arts instruction. With this new webinar series, a2ru hopes to provide that space.

4. Artivate Summit 2020: Art + Healing
Online September 15-16
https://www.uncsa.edu/kenan/creative-catalyst/artivate.aspx

Please join us to explore the ways that creative practices integrating arts, science and spirituality can be powerful innovation engines. Health and spiritual professionals can learn how they can benefit from engaging the arts in their practice. Likewise, creatives can share how they integrate their practice into the worlds of health and spirituality.

To ensure safe and equitable access to the broadest range of participants possible, Artivate 2020: Art + Healing will now be a live virtual experience held on September 15 and 16, 2020. All fees have been waived, but a $20 donation is suggested. Registration will open July 13.

Nikki Giovanni, one of the most widely read American poets, will headline the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts' Artivate Summit on Tuesday, September 15. She is joined by Chris Wells, founding artistic director of The Secret City, who will give the keynote address on Wednesday, September 16. Each speaker will also guide separate conference sessions.

Nikki Giovanni has spurred movements, turned hearts, and informed generations with her work. The author of more than two dozen books, she has been hailed as a firebrand, a radical, a healer, and a sage; a wise and courageous voice who has spoken out on the sensitive issues, including race and gender, that touch our national consciousness.

Chris Wells is the founding artistic director of The Secret City, a community of artists, creatives, and others who seek a deeper engagement with the world. Wells serves as host, producer, lead artist, storyteller and head curator, presenting an endless variety of artists in a setting dedicated to connecting artists to community and building community around the arts. He has written numerous plays, including the Off Off Broadway show "It Will All Work Out,"based on his stories and songs, which premiered at Dixon Place in April 2017.

6. Imagining Futures: Building through research, education, and art during COVID19
Deadline: July 15
tiny.cc/imaginingfutures

This multilingual publication is now accepting submissions of zines, poetry, and short prose for print in September 2020.

During the time of the novel Coronavirus, as communities are shifting physically, emotionally, economically, and politically, what is your struggle? How have words created a mirror of a time of pandemic and uncertainty? How have you spoken about your research? How has the way you see land and the earth changed? Who are we becoming? How has this pandemic revealed who we are, as researchers, educators, artists, community members, scientists, etc.? What futures are we imagining through our work? It is in the light of these questions that we ask for submissions to this project.

Partners: Kulidan Kitchen arts and education, Critical Language Scholarship Alumni Development Fund, Athens Institute for Contemporary Art, University of Gadjah Mada, Willson Center Shelter Projects through the University of Georgia and Flagpole Magazine.

9. a2ru Conference Limited Proposal Calls
Deadline: August 21

Student Voices Panel

Speaking of #BlackintheIvory: Amplifying the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Experience at a2ru and on Our Campuses

We are excited to take the next step to build on the a2ru scholars' program, to allow for multiple channels of entry into our work, and to better lay the groundwork to ensure that a2ru is a more inclusive organization. For our annual meeting this year, we are debuting a panel of student voices who will speak to the Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color (BIPOC) campus experience and how it can be improved. Aligned with our mission, we will be centering on the theme of the artistic and transdisciplinary experience on not only the university campus, but also specifically at a2ru events such as the student summit, the annual meeting, and webinars.

Panelists will speak from their own experience and address questions such as: How can a2ru/my campus better recognize and work to dismantle systemic racist practices? How may we ensure that our spaces are more diverse whether they be classrooms, conferences, or workshops? How can we ensure that we are not recruiting with diversity in mind, but no plan to retain BIPOC students and faculty? What structures are needed for those who identify as BIPOC to thrive, and how do we build them? How do BIPOC students approach the hypervisibility / invisibility on campus, at conferences, and in academia in general? How can we do better to ensure that, in the future, these students are not one of only a few BIPOC identifying individuals in the room/ on the program?
